I’ve arrived at Holgate Meadows in my 31st year in Education. I have been in Leadership in both Mainstream and Special schools for 22 years.

I spent 20 years in Mainstream secondary settings in Rochdale, Oldham and Leeds. Throughout that time, it was very apparent that mainstream school settings do not fulfil the emotional needs of some learners who need to be supported by a curriculum that meets their individual needs. Those learners need staff who know about and understand the strategies for supporting them and their complex needs. Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) provision can be delivered in mainstream schools who have the resources, but since moving into leadership in Special Education in 2012, I have seen that accelerated progress can be made by students when they feel settled, safe and their needs are being met.

I am working with all the staff teams at Holgate Meadows, to ensure that we can make progress in all areas of school improvement. The staff are already committed, hardworking and enjoy coming to work at Holgate Meadows. I am determined that the students will begin to feel proud of their school and their own achievements.

I will work to include Parents, Carers and all Stakeholders of the school so that they can be confident that Holgate Meadows is offering a quality education in a calm, safe environment.

Please get in touch if you want to visit the school and I will be happy to meet you and show you around.
