PE

The vision of the department is for pupils to enjoy, engage and achieve.  An emphasis is placed on participating, improving and building confidence through a broad and balanced curriculum.

All pupils are encouraged to be active and value the importance of exercise and participation.  The staff are fully committed to high quality teaching and learning to ensure pupils make progress.

The department offers opportunities for pupils to develop their skills and confidence further through extra curricular activities, sports fixtures and festivals which the school regularly compete in.

All upper school pupils have at least 2 x 40 minute lessons of PE a week.  Pupils will learn to develop their skills and techniques to develop their competence and creativity to perform at a higher level in a wide variety of activities.  These include football, basketball, hockey, trampoline, gymnastics, athletics, fitness, outdoor adventurous activities, boccia, badminton, cricket, rugby, volleyball, tennis and dodgeball.

In year 9 pupils can undertake the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme which is delivered through the PE curriculum.  As part of the scheme pupils complete their skill, physical, volunteering and expedition sections and also learn first aid.  As part of the expedition section pupils will undertake a 2 day 1 night camp in the Peak District.  They will also complete a walk on both days carrying essential equipment in their rucksack, pitch their tent at the camp site and cook their own tea and breakfast.

During KS4 pupils have the opportunity to complete qualifications in BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Sport and Active Leisure, Level 1/2 Award in Sport Leadership and GSCE PE Short Course.
